Description
Peggy Pierce Freeman (1923-2006) was a Pittsburgh pianist, piano accompanist, organist and piano teacher. Freeman talks about her early music training with her piano teacher Mary Cardwell Dawson starting at 7 years old (1930); how Dawson remained her teacher even after she went to college; her education at Carnegie Tech (Carnegie Mellon) and her status as the only black woman studying music at the college; her association with the National Negro Opera Company and other people in the group; the Syria Mosque and the protests to preserve it from being demolished; Mary Cardwell Dawson's challenges to staging opera productions; her participation with the Treble Clef Choir and it's founder Maudelena Johnson; her husband Robert J. Freeman's music career; the Women's Civic Choir founded by Professor Ralph Davis.
