  • Nine women smile for this photo, showing off the oars they will use to paddle their canoes on the Allegheny River. The woman in the middle does not have an oar and looks down at the ground, as though sad to be left out of the fun. Two of the oars are decorated with the letter M. Behind the girls is one of the tents where people stayed over their summer visits to Oakmont. In the late 19th and early 20th century Oakmont was a popular summer camping destination. Originally from the collection of Mrs. Chester P. Gallagher, Rosslyn Farms, Carnegie, PA.
