Description
Contestants in the Miss Willows Pageant of 1929 line up and smile for the camera. J. R. Hunter has helpfully written the girl's names beneath them. They are, from left to right, Florence Oleyar, Betty Glass, Mae Cutnell, Dot Gildernew, Kitty Arnold, Nan Allan, Mary Jean Milliken, a young girl beginning her pageant career early, and Alfhild Larson, Miss Willows of 1927 and America's Fashion Queen of 1928. They exhibit various clothing styles of the late 1920s. One of the Willows Pool lifeguards strides past on the left of the photo. The children in the background and on the edges of the photo seem ready for the pageant to end, so that they can get back to swimming and splashing noisily.
