Description
Shown here is the main building and the loading dock of the United States Gypsum Company. A man leans against the side of the loading dock, his face partially in shadow. Railroad tracks on the ground reveal how supplies brought by train arrived at the plant. In 1936 during the Great Depression, the opening of the United States Gypsum Company's paper and bag plants on March 7 in Oakmont was a very positive event. At the time, the company was the largest manufacturer of building materials in the whole world. Both parking lot and the plant itself are visible along Allegheny Avenue.
