  • In 1936 during the Great Depression, the opening of the United States Gypsum Company's paper and bag plants on March 7 in Oakmont was a very positive event. At the time, the company was the largest manufacturer of building materials in the whole world. Both parking lot, with some cars parked, and the plant itself are visible along Allegheny Avenue.
