  • In 1910, even though road paving in Oakmont began five years previously, College Avenue, shown here, remained a muddy, pitted, difficult to traverse street. The road may be awful, but on each side there is a nice cement sidewalk. This rather less than ideal picture choice appeared on a postcard of Oakmont that was sent by Grace, an Oakmont resident, to one a friend living in Yatesboro, Pa. The card, postmarked August 23, 1910, read, "This is the street that we live on, but you can't see our house." Originally from the Westerman Collection.
