Description
This photograph shows Allegheny River Boulevard between Washington and Delaware Avenues circa 1950. In the foreground is G.C. Murphy Company Variety Store. The variety store was at one time one of the biggest storefronts on Allegheny River Boulevard. Now several stores occupy the space it once held. Opened in 1945, the variety store sold pretty much anything imaginable, from gold fish, to work clothes, to candy and popcorn. Murphy's was known as a "5 and 10" because most everything sold for a nickel or dime. This photograph looks north on the boulevard. Originally from the Vince Provenza Collection.
