Description
The Oakmont Post Office moved through a number of locations through the years before finally settling in this building at Allegheny River Boulevard and Maryland Avenue, which remains the post office today. The site of the building was purchased for $14,000 during November 1939. The post office was actually built in 1941, with the dedication occurring in August. Oakmont's post office was the last one built in the Pittsburgh area before World War II began. The walls include murals by female sculptor Franc Etting. Although the exact date of the photo is unknown, it was likely not too long after the dedication of the post office. The first Oakmont Post Office was housed in the Hulton Railroad Station.
