Description
George N. Kokales stand on the left of the photo, leaning against the counter behind the register. Across the counter from him is John G. Kokales. The man on the right is Gus Kokales, with one hand on the milk crate, and the fourth man is another staff member, Mr. Glasser. Heinz Tomato Ketchup sits in a basket at the front of the store. Letters hanging from the latticework advertise Sunkist soda. Beneath that, ham hocks hang from hooks. The Kokales family opened their market, located at 154 Allegheny River Boulevard, in May 1921 and remained open until 1979. Originally from the collection of the Kokales Family.
