A man stands behind the counter of John Hastings' Grocery & Dry Goods Store; a child stands in front of the counter. Items fill the shelves. Fruit and vegetables are on the right along with Calumet Baking Powder and Heinz Mince Meat. On the left are breads and canned foods. John Hastings established his store in 1875, a couple of years after moving to Oakmont for his job at Dexter Spring Company. His was the first grocery store in Oakmont.
