Description
A man takes the stage at the Lions Club Show dressed as a woman. He wears a frilly green and white dress and an orange-haired wig, which matches the bow tied round his waist. He makes a face of distress while attempting to rescue one of the straps of his dress. A violin is just visible on the left hand side of the image, while the conductor, clad in plaid, shows up on the right. The show took place every year in Oakmont High School and continued to occur there even when the school became the Gilmore School, an elementary school, in 1961. The annual show was, and still is, immensely popular with Oakmonters and showcases local talent. They used to select a Lions Show Queen from among the participating high school girls; the crowning was one of the crowd's favorite aspects of the show. The Lions Club show currently takes place in the Tenth Street School's auditorium. Originally from the collection of Len Flowers.
