Description
When the Allegheny River flooded on St. Patrick's Day in 1936, much of riverside Oakmont looked like this. The houses and buildings shown here have water partway up the first floor. The Pennzoil gas station on the right can be made out only by the sign in the middle of the image and the circular shapes sticking up out of the water, presumably the tops of gas pumps. Over 130 buildings were damaged in Oakmont alone.
