Description
This photograph looks across the swollen waters of the Allegheny after the 1936 St. Patrick's Day Flood. The additionally width of the river can be guessed at by where the submerged trees and scrub begin. Snow, still on the ground from before the flood, is evident in the foreground. On the other side of the river is Edgewater Steel's plant, which had to be shut down for quite a while afterwards to be cleaned and refurbished. Over 130 buildings were damaged in Oakmont alone.
