Description
Color postcard of the Oakmont Carnegie Library. The Oakmont Carnegie Library opened in 1901. Andrew Carnegie supported the construction of the library after the request from his cousin and Oakmont resident, Leander M. Morris in 1899. Carnegie would eventually pledge $25,000 for the library after the Oakmont School Board agreed to levy a real estate tax that would provide for the library's annual up keep. Built on the corner of Allegheny River Boulevard and Pennsylvania Avenue by Oakmont Contractor William Braithwait for$ 17,956, the library underwent an expansion and renovation in 2005.
