Description
This photograph shows those present at the dedication of the Len C. Anderson / William E. Kerr memorial rock located in Riverside Park. This memorial to Len C. Anderson and William Kerr is located in Riverside Park. The plaque on the memorial rock reads, "FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO OAKMONT / LEN C. ANDERSON / WILLIAM E. KERR / FROM A GRATEFUL COMMUNITY / 1974". Len C. Anderson is best known for running Anderson Newspapers, which published Oakmont's newspaper, the Advance Leader, for many years. However, Mr. Anderson was also very involved with various civic projects in Oakmont, including the project to build Riverside Park. Mr. Anderson initiated the project, and with help from William E. Kerr and other residents, helped to develop the park into the recreational area it remains today. In addition to his work with Riverside Park, William E. Kerr also helped to develop Dark Hollow Woods, another Oakmont landmark. Originally from the collection of Rita Young.
