Description
The Clingman Family papers and photographs document the lives and genealogy of Clingman family members in the Pittsburgh area. The genealogy materials include lists of family members dating back to 580 A.D., the Mildred Pricer genealogy correspondence, and a 1916 copy of a deed for the Clingman house in Ben Avon. Her life is documented by an itinerary of her honeymoon with Joseph Pricer, her scrapbook, the 1916 Ben Avon High School yearbook, and Quax University of Pittsburgh: Some Reminiscences of its Founding by the Charter Members. The life of Ellen Prider Niepp is documented by the guestbook for her wedding, her baby book from 1930, a 1948 Mt. Lebanon High School yearbook, and Panther, a Univeristy of Pittsburgh magazine. The photographs include late nineteenth and early twentieth century photographs of the Clingman and Bullis families, Mildred and Joseph Pricer vacation photographs from the early 1960s, and studio portraits of Mildred and Joseph and of Ellen Pricer. In addition to family photographs, there are photographs of the 1915 and 1916 graduating classes from Ben Avon High School., Clingman Family papers and photographs, c.1890-c.1960, MSS 0768, Thomas and Katherine Detre Library and Archives, Senator John Heinz History Center, Cataloging of this collection was funded by a Basic Processing grant from NHPRC., Leslie A. Niepp Gift 2006 2006.0022, Henry Edward Clingman moved his family from New York to Ben Avon, Pa. in the early twentieth century. He started H. E. Clingman and Son in Pittsburgh at approximately the same time. He died in 1918. Hid daughter, Mildred Clingman Pricer was born in New York in 1896. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1920 and became a social worker. She married Joseph Pricer in 1929, and they had a daughter, Ellen Ann. Ellen Ann Pricer was born in 1930. She graduated from the University of Pittburgh in 1952 and went on to become a teacher in the Northgate School District for thirty years. In 1952, she married Frederick A. Niepp, and they had two children: Diana and Leslie. Ellen Pricer Niepp died in 2001., Gift of Leslie A. Niepp., Processed MSS 0768 04/12 K. Smith, Collection level finding aid available.
