  • Description
  • Frances Cary, born and raised in Pittsburgh, provides insights into her family's history and her experiences growing up. Her father, Aaron Henry Levinson, was the first Jewish merchant in the city and operated a grocery store. Cary discusses her early years, her mother's social work, and her family's involvement in the Jewish community. She shares details about her diverse neighborhood, interactions with people of different backgrounds, and the tolerance exhibited by her family. Cary worked as a pianist in theaters, including the Million Dollar Grant, and reflects on her contributions to the war effort through the USO. She was part of the Beth El synagogue and highlights the importance of her faith in her life.
