  • Steve Vravel describes his upbringing in Homestead as the son of two immigrants from Eastern Europe, recalling his employment at the Glass Company of Swissvale at age 14 and his employment in the steel mill at age 16. He describes the dangerous nature of mill work and recounts his involvement in the creation of a union. He shares his perceptions about ethnic and racial relations and discusses the increase in drug use.
