Description
Catherine O'Connor recalls her family's experience emigrating from Scotland to Homestead via Ellis Island and her father's difficulty finding employment due to anti-Catholic discrimination. She describes the numerous jobs she had as a young woman, including teaching, telephone operation, and secretarial work. She recounts her memories of the Great Depression, including her mother's efforts to help the poor, and recalls how she became a stenographer in a legal firm.
