Description
Esther Newman discusses her religious identity and her hometown, Bar Palanca in Hungary. Newman is an active member of Hadassah, Jewish Home and Hospital for the Aged, and the Pollaczek Sisterhood. She served as the president of the Sisterhood and her husband as the president of the congregation when they lived in Hazelwood. Newman talks about the differences in the lives of women in Hungary compared to America. She also discusses her family, relatives in Israel, and her experiences during the flu epidemic. Newman recalls her father's efforts to bring the family to America, and the adaptation to American customs as well.
