  • A disastrous railroad fire in the Pitcairn Yards in the late 1940s destroyed the storeroom of the car repair roundhouse (on the left). In the background, behind the General Foreman’s office, is the power plant smokestack. To the right are the blacksmith and machine shops. Most of the buildings shown here were demolished in the 1960s.
