Description
It is unknown if this is the first school building or the second school building built in Oakmont. One source identifies the photo as being the first school building, built in 1863 at 410 College Avenue, used until 1890. However, another source identifies the photo as being the second schoolhouse, built in 1868 at Fifth St and E Street (Pennsylvania Ave.), which was used until it was replaced by a larger schoolhouse in 1893. The first school building was a two room, two storey structure. The second school building was a four room building, but no mention is made of the number of stories. Until a definite answer is given, the exact building shown and location of this photograph remain a mystery.
