Description
Construction of the river wall and wharf on the right bank of the Monongahela River looking upstream. Prior to Renaissance I, the Point was in a state of deterioration. Litter, debris, unused freight yards, and vacant buildings in the “heart” of Pittsburgh represented the last vestiges of the industrial revolution and the steel boom. The river wall construction (pictured here) was part of the project of clearing the twenty-three acres on the western end of the Golden Triangle to make room for Point State Park and the fountain complex that now resides there.
