Description
The WQED Building, located at 4802 Fifth Avenue in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood, houses the television and radio studios of one of the best-known public broadcasting stations in the United States. The structure was designed by Paul Schweikher & Associates in the late 1960s. This building was one of a half-dozen designed by Schweikher during his residency in Pittsburgh in the 1960s. WQED was established in 1954 and was the first community sponsored educational television station in the United States and produced such classic programs as “Children’s Corner” and “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.”
