Description
Nana Mouskouri (born on October 13, 1934 in Athens, Greece) and the Athenians at the International Poetry Forum in Pittsburgh. Nana Mouskouri sang songs in French, English, Spanish, and German during her performance. When she began to sing “The White Rose of Athens” in Greek, the audience erupted in applause. The International Poetry Forum was founded in 1966 by Samuel Hazo, Associate Dean of the College and Professor of English at Duquesne University. Samuel was also a poet, with several published volumes to his name. In 1980 the Forum became an independent non-profit cultural organization focused on the oral presentation of poetry and the enhancement of life through poetry. Today, the International Poetry Forum is committed to the introduction of the world’s most significant poetry to the metropolitan Pittsburgh area. The International Poetry Forum has received the Smithsonian Award from the Smithsonian Institution along with citations from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the County of Allegheny, and the City of Pittsburgh.
