Entered Hebrew Union College, Cincinnati, Ohio, 1953. Raised in traditional Orthodox environment; moved from Orthodoxy to Reform. At one point, detached from religion completely. Majored in psychology, practiced in Williamsburg, VA. Chose rabbinical school rather than pursue PhD in psychology. Parents came from Lithuania, settled in Newburyport. Grandfather great influence on Respondent. Father established shoe business, mother, homemaker. Gives description of family, religious and social activities. Studied privately after Bar Mitzvah. Only three Jewish children in High School. Experienced anti-Semitism, began to question Judaism. At Boston Suffolk U., prepared for law degree, changed to psychology. Transferred to University of New Hampshire. Discusses relationship with father.
