Established by James O'Hara and Isaac Craig in 1797, the O'Hara Glass Works was among the first glass factories established in Western Pennsylvania and the first established in Pittsburgh. Located on the south side of the Monongahela River, across from Pittsburgh's Point, the glassworks manufactured bottles and window glass until the 1880s.

The O'Hara Glass Works Minute Books include documentation of the company's bylaws, board activities, finances, and facility improvements.
The items in the collection include two volumes of minute books of the O'Hara Glass Works, from 1851-1853. The books detail the proceedinngs of the board and stockholder meetings of the O'Hara Glass Manufacturing Company in 1851, and of its successor company, the O'Hara Glass Works in 1852. Located in the books are two stock certificates from the O'Hara Glass Manufacturing Company for three and five shares. Along with the two minute books, both a transcription and copies of the two books are included. The final folder in the collection contains copies of ledgers and maps belonging to James O'Hara, one of the founders of the company.
