Leonard Leibowitz earned his bachelor's of fine arts degree from California College of Arts and Crafts and. Leibowitz presented Faces of Pittsburgh in 1988, an exhibit of over three hundred photographic portraits. He was selected for the Pittsburgh Masters series at the Jewish Community Center of Pittsburgh in 1996. His work has been featured in numerous galleries including the Robert Schoelkopf Gallery and Hunting Hartford Gallery of Modern Art, both in New York City. His work is represented in the collections at the Fogg Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, British Museum, and Carnegie Museum of Art.
The Leonard Leibowitz Photographs include most of the entire series of 311 portraits from his 1988 "Faces of Pittsburgh" exhibition, which ran from June through July at the Carnegie Mellon University Art Gallery. Faces of Pittsburgh is comprised of portraits of individuals representing a variety of different backgrounds. A numbered list of names of the individuals featured in the portraits is included in box 3, corresponding with the numbered photographs.
