Brothers Harry Schreiber (1904-1937) and Samuel Schreiber (1906-1987) were the sons of Russian Jewish immigrants Moische and Esther Schreiber. The brothers were pharmacists, graduating from the University of Pittsburgh College of Pharmacy, Harry in 1922 and Sam in 1926. However, during the height of the depression in 1934, the brothers unable to find jobs as pharmacists, formed Schreiber Trucking Company, Inc. After Harry's death in an industrial accident in 1937, his widow, Marian Syna Schreiber took his place as a partner with the company. Over the next several decades, the company grew to be one of the largest shipping companies in Pennsylvania.
Marian Syna Schreiber married William Rosenberg, owner of the Wilton Trucking Company in 1951. A year later, the couple went into the storage business, opening Wilton Storage Company in 1952. The business was left to Marian and Harry Schreiber's son Sidney Allen Schreiber (1936-2012), who ran the company until his retirement.
The Schreiber Family collection consists of photographs, newspaper clippings, blueprints, scrapbooks, and other documents pertaining to the family and the running of Schreiber Trucking Company and Wilton Storage Company. Among the records documenting the Schreiber family are a scrapbook detailing the genealogy of the family compiled by Sidney Allen Schreiber in 2011, as well as photographs, newspaper clippings, and legal documents pertaining to members of the Schreiber family. Among these documents are photographs and certificates pertaining to Marian Syna Schreiber's work with the American Women's Voluntary Services and her work with the National Parkinson's Foundation.
The bulk of the collection documents the two companies owned by the Schreiber family, Schreiber Trucking Company and Wilton Storage Company. The Schreiber Trucking series contains newspaper clippings regarding the business and its activities, legal documents, including the Articles of Partnership and agreements between Marian and Samuel Schreiber, and photographs both of employees and company trucks. Also included are two scrapbooks, one contains stationary and other ephemera, the other is a mock up of a 25th anniversary book. The Wilton Storage series includes business financial reports, standard terms and charges documents, and correspondence to and from customers. The series also houses maps and blueprints of various Pittsburgh neighborhoods and warehouse buildings, as well as newspaper clippings pertaining to the Wilton Storage Company.
