The Weaver Family Papers includes material on Frederick and Vera Weaver. Frederick Weaver was a medical corporal for the U.S. Army during World War I and was promoted to sergeant in 1919. After the war he married Vera Kovar, an immigrant from Czechoslovakia, who attended high school in Swissvale, Pa., where she graduated in 1920. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and volunteer with the American Red Cross during World War II. Frederick and Vera Weaver had three children: Jean, Annie and William. In the late 1940s, Frederick Weaver became secretary of the Clarion River Valley Restoration Association, while also working for Union Switch and Signal, before retiring in 1956.
The Weaver Family Papers primarily focus on Frederick and Vera Weaver, and consist of material from World War I and World War II, up to the 1960's. In Box 1 are personal photographs of Vera, photographs of Frederick in his military uniform, personal and military correspondences from World War I, papers from organizations Vera Weaver volunteered for, and Frederick Weaver's bible. The personal correspondence include letters sent to Frederick when stationed in France, and also when he lived in Pittsburgh. Box 2 includes Pennsylvania forestry publications, materials from the United Presbyterian Church in Brentwood, Pa., and minutes and correspondence from the Clarion River Valley Restoration Association. There are numerous newspaper clippings about the Clarion River Valley Restoration Association, as well. In Box 3 are Frederick's military song and prayer books, U.S. World War II propoganda publications, a large rolled photograph of downtown Pittsburgh, and a rolled diploma for Frederick Weaver from Brentwood High School.
