Nathaniel and Theodore Pinsker lived in Pittsburgh and were active in Troop No. 3 of the Boy Scouts of America's Three Rivers District. Their scouting activities included camping trips and the annual Father-Scout dinner held each February in honor of the founding of Boy Scouts of America.
Nathaniel Pinsker was involved with the Boy Scouts of America for over 50 years, serving as the scoutmaster for Boy Scout Three Rivers District Troop No. 3 from 1965 until the early 1970s. He was an Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow. His other scouting honors included the Scoutmaster's Training Award, the Silver Beaver award for community service and the Wood Badge for intensive training. He was also instrumental in development of the national scouting manual, Scouting and the Jewish Boy.
Theodore Pinsker is the son of Rose and Nathaniel Pinsker. He was a member of Troop No. 3 for over 25 years, serving as assistant scout master under his father in 1960s and 1970s. He received the Ner Tamid Award and Eagle rank when he was a student at Peabody High School in the late 1960s. In 1999, he was appointed co-chairman of the Jewish Committee on Scouting, Greater Pittsburgh Council for the Boy Scouts of America.
The collection is housed in one archival box with one shelf volume. The materials include Troop No. 3's charter, individual and group camping awards and a record dues book as well as Theodore Pinsker's camp song books and cooking manuals. Photographs document scouting activities such as camping trips and award ceremonies. The scrapbook came with its own index and includes photographs, newspaper clippings, correspondence, and campground maps used by Troop No. 3. The collection is arranged into folders according to owner/primary subject (Theodore Pinsker, Nathaniel Pinsker or all of Troop No. 3) and genre (photographs, awards, manuals etc.). Each folder is arranged chronologically when dates are known.
