Ida and Joseph Rosen were early members of Tifereth Israel Congregation in New Castle, Pa., a tradition passed down to their children and grandchildren.
Born to Abe Rosen (1835-1915) and Jeny Rosen (1835-1915) in Poland, Joseph Rosen (1871-1950) immigrated to the United States in 1888. Joseph was an early member of Tifereth Israel Congregation which was incorporated in 1894. He was a butcher by trade. He married Ida Yurkanski (1871-1961) in 1894. Born to Usher Yurkanski (1834-1920) and Faigie Yurkanski (1835-1903) in Russia, Ida immigrated to the United States in 1892. She was an active member of the Tifereth Israel Sisterhood, serving as President, and also a member of the Ladies Relief.
Joseph and Ida Rosen had four children, Bertha (1892-1973), Samuel (1897-1988), Nathan (1902-1971), and Florence (1906-1991).
Samuel Rosen was married twice— first to Belle Golding (1903-1945) and then to Rebecca Britton (1903-1990). Samuel and Belle Golding had a son named Sherman Rosen (1927-2007). Like his parents, Samuel was a member of Tifereth Israel, and he worked for Manufacturers Light and Heat Co. until his retirement in 1961.
Sherman Rosen and his wife Eileen Gulak Rosen (1934-2020) were also active in the congregation for several decades until retiring to Florida in 1989. They had five children, Gail, Claudia, Jeff, Steve, and Scott.
