Abstract
Allegheny County Veterans and Widows Burial and Death Records document burial applications and arrangements for honorably discharged military veterans and their widows who resided in Allegheny County, PA. The records consist of 114 bound volumes ranging from 1885 until 1995 and detail veteran's burial allowances, funeral costs, soldier and widow information, military service and family information. Record groups in the collection include Honorably discharged veterans (1885-1995), honorably discharged veteran's widows (1916-1979), Allegheny County records of deceased soldiers (1966-1975) and Catholic Charities burial records (1992-1995).

Scope and Content Notes

Allegheny County Veterans and Widows Burial and Death Records consist of 114 bound volumes. Honorably discharged veteran burial applications (1885-1895, boxes 1-100) are arranged by year of burial and include information about military service, place of death and burial, signed affidavits from funeral directors verifying arrangements, expenses paid and burial voucher information. Veteran's widow's applications (1916-1979, boxes 101-106) are arranged by year of burial and include name, place of death and burial and husband's military enlistment and death information along with signed affidavits verifying undertaker expenses, burial expenses paid and witness information. Records of deceased soldiers (1966-1975, boxes 107-113) include the soldier's name, address, date and location of death, war service, nearest living relative information, place of burial and undertaker. Catholic Charities burial records (1992-1995, box 114) consist of a single record book organized by date of burial and includes name, date of death, home address, file and service number and place of burial.
