William E. Young (b. 1920- d. 2002) was a research engineer with Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company in Pittsburgh. The William E. Young Papers consist of two boxes of printed materials documenting William E. Young's career with Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company. A large part of the collection is made up of research reports. Correspondence, memos, brochures, and committee minutes are also included.

History

William E. Young (b. 1920- d. 2002) was a research engineer with Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company in Pittsburgh. Originally from Vermont, he received his master's and doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering from University of Pittsburgh. He began working for Westinghouse in 1941 and worked at the Forest Hills Research Center and Westinghouse Research Center in Churchill over his tenure with the company. Projects he worked on included atomic research for the Manhattan Project and the development of a jet engine for the United States Navy.

Scope and Content Notes

The William E. Young Papers consist of two boxes of printed materials documenting William E. Young's career with Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company. A large part of the collection is made up of research reports. Correspondence, memos, brochures, and committee minutes are also included. Folders are arranged first alphabetically by topic or format, then chronologically.
