Hezekiah Nixon Duff was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on March 15, 1876. He graduated from Western University of Pennsylvania, now University of Pittsburgh, with Bachelors and Masters degrees in Law and worked as an editor for the Pittsburg Leadernewspaper.
Duff was a Private in Hampton-Battery B and fought in the Spanish-American War. After returning home, he married Sarah Lindsay and moved to Michigan. In Michigan, Duff worked for various newspapers and magazines. From 1929-1930, he served as the National Commander in Chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Hezekiah Nixon Duff died in April 29, 1949, and was interred in Union Dale Cemetery located in Pittsburgh's North Side.
The collection consists of one box with the folders arranged alphabetically. Materials include correspondence from Duff to his family during the Spanish-American War, newspaper clippings, primary school notebook and commencement invitation. Also included are materials related to Duff's military service, veteran events, and photographs.
