Linden Elementary School is part of the Pittsburgh Public School system. The school is located on Linden Avenue in Pittsburgh. In 1882, Linden School began as a small one-story building to educate the little children in the community. Miss Parker, who was the principal of the Sterrett School, supervised this school. Because of overcrowding, a new building was constructed in 1903. The first principal of this elementary school was Miss Emma M. Craig. In 1925, the Linden PTA was formed. The first president of the PTA was Mrs. G. F. Sterrett, and the first vice-president was Judge John T. Duff. The PTA has sponsoredmany fundraising drives, projects, and school events. Miss Carolyn D. Patterson became principal of Linden School in 1932. During her time as principal, Linden won many honors and was involved in several community projects. Miss Patterson retired in 1961. Over the years overcrowding had continued to be a problem for the Linden School, and several additions have been added to solve this problem, with the last having been built in 1961. Today, Linden Elementary School still functions as part of the Pittsburgh Public School system.
