History
The American Sheet and Tin Plate Company was founded in 1904 by combining the American Tin Plate Company and American Sheet Steel Company, both subsidiaries of United States Steel. American consisted of several plants in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, and Indiana.
Scope and Content Notes
This collection includes steel price books dating from 1903 to 1933. These were instructional books on price, terminology, size and gauge used at American Sheet and Tin Plate Company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Some books indicate ownership by Joseph Johnson and W.C. Carroll, who both worked in the Frick Building, and George G. McGlaughlin of the Cleveland, Ohio, distribution office. The books contain notations regarding the variations in price for several different products the plant produced.
