History

The Orthodox Square Clubs of America, Inc. (OSCA) are a fraternal organizaticomposed of Masons of the Eastern Orthodox Christian faith who have banded together to form local chapters. The chapters are governed by by-laws found in use by Masonic Square Clubs and condoned by the Grand Lodges of Freemasonry. The OSCA was founded in 1963 and was composed of chartered regional chapters. Local Pittsburgh Chapter #4 was incorporated into the OSCA on December 9, 1966, in Detroit, Michigan. The elected president of the chapter for many years was Frank Temcio.

The objective of the organization is to promote Eastern Orthodox Christian fellowship and broaden its influence among the masonic community. Conventions were held annually for the purpose of exchanging ideas and promoting sociability among its membership. As an organization, charitable contributions were made on a local chapter basis to support Masonic homes and hospitals, the Scottish Rite Benevolent foundation, and the Shrine Crippled Children and Burns Hospital. The national organization had at one time a membership between thirty and forty thousand Eastern Orthodox Christians. The chapters were located in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Canada.

Most of the collection's records relate to the Hi (High) Twelve Square Club of Cleveland, Ohio. High Twelve is an association comprised of Master Masons who seek Masonic fellowship independent of the formal Masonic Lodge. The Freemasons were active in their communities while expressing their dedication to the fraternal organization.
