Biography
Joseph Jessel, Jr. was an amatuer photographer who specialized in detailed studies of several urban transit systems including street cars operating in the Pittsburgh area. Jessel was born on November 18, 1938 in San Fransisco, California and was active in several transit and transportation groups. He held degrees from both Georgetown University and the Cincinnati College of Embalming. He was employed by Chambers Funeral Directors until his death in March 1974.
Scope and Content
This collection includes 387 color photographic slides of street cars in Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas for the years 1961-1973. The collection is arranged by route number, including the corresponding route name and number of slides per route.
