  • Sara Mellon Scaife receiving an honorary degree from the University of Pittsburgh during the 1955 commencement ceremony. Mrs. Scaife was the daughter of Richard Beatty Mellon and Jennie King Mellon, and the sister of Richard King Mellon. She was married to Alan Magee Scaife. She is noted for her philanthropy and generous gifts to Magee Women's Hospital, the Animal Rescue League, and the East Liberty Presbyterian Church, among others.
