  • Pittsburgh Mayor David L. Lawrence signs a proclamation designating May 3, 1947 PCW Day. College President Paul Anderson and two unidentified ladies look on. May 3rd was also the date of the annual May Day celebration on the college campus. Newspapers ran special features, department stores mounted window displays of "what to wear to PCW May Day." Begun in 1902, the popular festival was not presented after this special effort in 1947.
