  • Professor Fred Adelman has a discussion with anthropologist Claire Horton and Marva Harris at a West African art exhibit in the Jennie King Mellon Library. Adelman was the Chairman of the Anthropology and Sociology Department at Chatham, specializing in Central Asian history, ethnography, Marxist approaches to anthropology, and anthropology of women. He studied in India and Asia in the 1960s and received his bachelor's degree from Yale University. He received his master's and doctorate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. Professor Adelman taught at Chatham from 1962 until his death in 1983.
