In this photograph, Julia Montgomery Walsh is speaking at a session of the Woman Entrepreneur program. Julia Walsh was a very successful stock broker who started her own company in 1977 and was the first woman president of the Greater Washington Board of Trades. She is speaking inside the Edward Danforth Eddy Theater. Edward Danforth Eddy was President of Chatham College from 1960 to 1977 and during his tenure he added the Jennie Mellon King Library, a new dining hall, and this theater to campus. The theater was finished in 1974, featuring a large proscenium stage and tiered seating for 285. The theater was named in Eddy's honor upon his resignation, "in recognition of his educational leadership and long interest in the arts." Eddy and his wife were also awarded honorary degrees as Doctors of Humane Letters. Eddy was named President Emeritus of Chatham in 1991.
