Description
Children participate in a health circus act. The Irene Kaufmann Settlement (IKS) initiated numerous health programs that eventually became city services including a visiting nurses service, the first pre-natal nursing service in Pittsburgh, and Better Baby clinics. The Irene Kaufmann Settlement merged with the YM&WHA and evolved into the present-day Jewish Community Center (JCC) in Pittsburgh's Squirrel Hill neighborhood. The JCC continues the tradition of the IKS in providing programs and services to the nonsectarian local community.
