Description
Over the years the H.J. Heinz Company plant has been flooded when waters of the Allegheny River have risen. Like most properties near the rivers in Pittsburgh, the plant was seriously flooded during the disastrous flood of 1936. The main plant, shown here in the lower right corner of the photograph, has been protected from the worst flooding situations in recent years by the flood control system on the upper Allegheny River. This photograph taken in March of 1964 shows floodwaters inching dangerously close to the main plant.
