Description
The H.J. Heinz Company stables featured many amenities for the horses, including foot baths, pictured here. These stables, which were also known as “equine palaces,” featured steamed heat, elevators that took the horses to specific floors, electrically operated brushes used in brushing the horses, and the finest feed and care available at the time. The first floor was used to store the wagons and on the fourth floor there was an open pavilion where the horses were taken to bask in the sunlight and get fresh air. The horse operations were discontinued in the 1920s and replaced by trucks.
