Description
Caption on the back of the photograph reads, “A tow of pipe, loaded at the Aliquippa works of the Jones & Laughlin steel corporation, and destined for the company’s warehouse at Memphis for distribution to the Oil fields of the West and Southwest. This tow was one sent out many years ago before the pioneers of river transportation for steel products had installed modern barges for down river work.” Steel tubes consisted of a large segment of Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation’s river steel delivery system, which was initiated in 1921.
