Description
Expansion at the Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation's Aliquippa Works in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. Pictured is the number twelve stove checker cave-in and scaffolding. The Aliquippa Works occupied an area of more than 700 acres on the west bank of the Ohio River, and extended approximately seven miles. It was one half mile wide at its widest point and was the largest industrial plant in Beaver County, employing about 14,950 men and women at its peak. The plant's location along the Ohio River provided excellent river and rail transportation for both raw materials and products.
