Caption on the back of the photograph reads, “The first 10,000 tons of a 17,000 ton unit train are being loaded at Consolidation Coal Company’s Blacksville No. 1 Mine. The other 7,000 tons were being loaded at Blacksville No. 2 Mine and were joined together for shipment to Detroit Edison’s electric generating station in Monroe, Michigan. When these mines reach full production they will produce about 3,000,000 tons per year each.”
