Description
North Park, located in McCandless, Pine, and Hampton Townships, was created in the 1920s as part of Allegheny County Park System. The lake (foreground), created in 1935, is the largest man-made body of water in Allegheny County. The well-stocked lake flows over 75-acres and is bordered by a 4 1/2 mile trail in natural woodlands. Landscaping for the park was completed by Paul B. Riis, who had worked on the National Park System and helped develop Yellowstone National Park. North Park comprises 3010 acres, the largest in the Allegheny County Park System. The Boathouse (right center) was built in the mid-1930s and is still in use today.
